Gerry spoke to our group this last Wednesday (2/14/2024) about the importance of community, some history of Citrus County, and told us some personal anecdotes.

Gerry Mulligan recently retired as publisher of the Citrus County Chronicle after 43 years of working at the newspaper. He led the conversion from a weekly newspaper to a seven-day daily in the 1980s. He has been heavily involved in the community for decades. He helped create the United Way in 1986. He served as president of the chamber of commerce and the Crystal River Rotary Club. He served as chairman of the Citrus County YMCA for eleven years and co-chaired the capital campaign that raised $8.3 million to build the YMCA in Lecanto. He has served on the state press association board for 30 years, including a term as its president.

Gerry recently authored his first book ‘Out the Window’, which was available at the luncheon.

Gerry lives in Crystal River with his wife Janet. They have four children, 11 grandchildren and two dogs.
