Our speaker last Wednesday (06.14.2023) was County Administrator Steve L. Howard. Mr. Howard serves as the chief executive and is responsible for implementing the policies set by the Board and for the day-to-day operations of the County Government. Steve showed a video showing the various county-wide initiatives and then expanded on the targets for making the county’s vision “Where Nature and People live in Harmony” and where “Nature and Community Thrive”, a reality. Important efforts include increasing the county’s footprint in the industrial and commercial sectors, with the hope of serving existing and new residents, and also creating more employment opportunities within the county rather than people having to commute to other areas. Conservation is an important part of the county’s agenda: 30.9 % of land is zoned accordingly.
