As the commander of the Emergency Operations Unit, then-Lieutenant Nuñez participated in the peaceful resolution of over 200 hostage and barricaded subject incidents. He retired from Miami-Dade in 2007 and moved to Citrus County where he and his wife Maria became members of the Rotary Club of Inverness. Upon his retirement from Miami-Dade, Dr. Nuñez became a full-time associate professor at Saint Leo University’s Department of Public Safety Administration. He served in that capacity until he retired in 2018 to focus on his duties as a Rotary District Governor. Nevertheless, Dr. Nuñez never really left the University. He continued to teach as a part-time adjunct professor, teaching a doctoral level leadership course, as well as Command Schools throughout Florida and Virginia. The relationship with Saint Leo University continues to this day, as Dr. Nuñez has been closely involved with the Mel Greene Institute to Combat Human Trafficking. That close relationship has also spawned a partnership with the Tampa Bay Area Alliance for Peace and Conflict Resolution for the implementation of the organization’s The First 30 Seconds SM project. Dr. Nuñez and his good friend Dr. Ernie Vendrell co-authored the award-winning book “Managing Critical Incidents and Large-Scale Event Security” as well as their personal accounts in the book titled “Escape From Cuba.” As a past Rotary District Governor, Dr. Nuñez serves on various committees and is currently the chairman of the District’s Peace & Conflict Resolution Committee. He is also a member of the Rotary Action Group for Peace.

20231129 130006

Thank you for joining us an talking about the First 30 Seconds project.
